Guitars & Amps for sale
Stock list
All entries on my inventory are quality instruments only, either vintage, second hand or new. They are meticulously hand selected according to my personal preferences. That means, most are very resonant and light weight instruments that sound excellent and play comfortably. Some are great investments, too, as they will very likely increase in market value. In any case, all guitars offer excellent user value. Customer satisfaction for both players and collectors alike is what I am working for.
If there is any issue with a guitar like refinishes, repairs, non-original parts, or worn down frets, it will be said so in the description of the instrument in question. Those issues will be reflected in the price.
Occasionally, I will upgrade an instrument with better pickups, better hardware, or even have it refretted when I feel it is appropiate to improve its sound, comfort, looks, or general user value. Original parts - if they weren't lost - will be included with the purchase, so that the guitar can be restored to its original state anytime. I will personally set up every instrument professionally (neck angle, neck relief, string action, intonation, pickup height, etc.) including a new set of strings with the string gauge of your choice.
For security reasons I do not keep all these guitars at my home! But it is no problem to check out the guitars you are interested in
However, you can check out any instrument by appointment either at my place here in Münster, Germany, or in a rehearsal room, if an amp needs to be cranked. Just give me a call or send a mail.
Prices
All prices are given in Euros (€) and include any required taxes. If you live outside the European Union the price can be reduced by 19 %, if the guitar's price includes turnover tax - check the particular instrument in the inventory. Prices will usually reflect average current market values, but you will find out that my prices compare quite favourably to many of my competitors in most cases.
However, I will not attempt to disguise the fact that I am trying to make a profit here, as I am sometimes "accused" of - as much as I am a guitarplayer, I am a pro dealer with a registered trade. I purchased and payed for all instruments on my stock list at my own financial risk. I spend many hours a day to find great instruments, original spare parts, and accessories. I then take a lot of time and patience to check if an instrument and its parts are original etc. (which often requires to take an instrument apart) and take fotos of everything. I then perform whatever maintenance work seems necessary, put everything back together, set the guitar up and restring it. Then I will produce videos of the guitars for sale (that alone is €800 per month for my camera man !), so that everybody can get a good first impression without having to come by. Then there is the task of keeping the website up and running, staying in contact with musicians, providers, customers, etc. Also there are import taxes, customs charges, shipping costs, turnover taxes and many more things to be payed :(
What I am trying to say is, I love guitars and I put a lot of effort into my trade. I take pride in what I do and I am trying to provide you with possibly the best piece of equipment your budget allows for. I can also spare you the risks usually associated with the purchase of vintage or second hand guitars - but I could not do so if my business would not support me. Therefore I feel that if I make any profit it is well earned for both my own and my customers' benefit :)
Contact
There is no e-shop system with my website, if you are interested in anything specifically or want to make an appointment, simply give me a call or send a mail:
phone: +49 251 5240802
email: hilden@muenster.de
You are welcome to ask any questions about the items for sale, I will try to answer as soon as I can.
Please
understand that I can not take the time anymore to answer questions
like "Do you think Mexican Fenders are better than Korean Epiphones" or
"What's your favourite stompbox under $ 100?" I understand that the
casual and informal way of internet communication is inviting to ask
anything you ever wanted to know about guitars. However, I get about 250
emails a day (!) just like this, it would take many hours each day just
to respond to all these general questions. That is simply impossible to
do. However, questions related to items on my inventory I'll try to
answer quickly.
Also, please DO NOT SEND ANY EMAIL ATTACHMENTS (pics, videos, sound clips, whatever) UNLESS I ASKED YOU TO! This kind of data can take up an awful lot of space and fill up my mail box in no time - important messages often do not get through. Thank you for your kind understanding.
Payment & Shipping
For customers living OUTSIDE of the European Union, prices can be
reduced by 19% - applies only to prices that are explicitly tagged
"incl. 19% turnover tax"! Just send a mail, so I can come back to you and see what I can do.
Occasionally,
I will buy or trade in quality guitars and guitar equipment. If you
have items to offer, please list them as detailed as you can and tell me
what prices you are asking for - I do not do appraisals, I will not
"ask" or "inquire for a quote" or "make an offer". Please decide what
you are asking for - I will come back to you. Again, do not send
attachments unless I asked you to.
If you want to carefully
check out and pick the guitar or piece of equipment you are interested
in, please contact me me for an appointment here in Münster, Germany.
However, if that should not be possible, I will have about anything
shipped to about any place in the world safely packaged - right
after I recieved your payment. I will only charge you the real shipping
costs - for instance, shipping a guitar within the EU is about €
20-30. Tell me where you need your articles sent to and I'll send you a
quote.
Note of the translater
Greg updates his stock list frequently, often every day. As soon
as a new item comes in, photos and video clips are recorded, he puts it
on his website. To prevent costs, I cannot do that - so I agreed with
Greg to update the English version of the stock list once a week,
usually around sunday. Unfortunately, some instruments sell very quickly
(especially Les Pauls) and I cannot bother to translate lengthy
comments of intstruments that are not available anymore. Therefore, if
you want to watch the videos of ALL guitars that ever were for sale, go
to Greg's YouTube channel "GregsGuitars", and click on "uploads". If you
want to see always the newest entries to get a chance to purchase one,
go to the German version of the stock list - you will get the most
important information anyway (model name, upgrades, price etc.). For
anything else, you can contact Greg by mail or phone.
FAQ from Gregor:
Recording
the You Tube Videos
I have two signals: the line-playback from the computer and the guitar amp,
miked with an AKG D-320 B. The 2 signals are going to a cheap Behringer mixing
desk - Xendix 1002 FX -(sometimes I use
a bit of Reverb No. 7 from the mixer - great Reverb!). A line-out from the
mixer (with the two signals) goes direct to the camera. The camera (Sony FX-1)
is recording everything at the same time. That's it. I don't use no recording
program. I don't do the editing and cutting (the camera man Stefan is doing
that, I don't know wich program he is using). No Post-Production on sound!
Backing
Tracks
The backing tracks are collected from the web in the years (most of them are
bought on profesiional seller-pages like jamtrackscentral or
guitarbackingtracks and many others!!... Sorry, I don't know anymore from wich
site a single track came. When I find a nice track I'll store it on my computer
and don't make a list with wich track came from wich site... Too many tracks
too many sites. I would not even find a requested single track on my computer
(1000+ Tracks) So: seach for "blues backing tracks" or "jam tracks"
and you will find a lot
Recently I've got several backing tracks from people they sent me tracks or
even made them for me. In this case (only this case, or I have bought from a
site and the credit was part of the deal) I take care to credit the Producer in
the Video Info. So you might check the Info below the video - some of the
tracks are available directly from the producer.

I do NOT use nail polish......

Large neck, nickel hardware, 17° headstock angle (in 1965, Gibson reduced the headstock angle to 14° to reduce costs and to prevent the common headstock damages. Various Gibsons
1967 Gibson ES-175 w/ Bigsby. From my personal collection, this is not a reissue, this the REAL thing. I am uncertain whether the Bigsby vibrato is original or was installed as an aftermarket feature. In any case, this Bigsby version does NOT require to have extra holes drilled into the top, so it won't hurt the sound! A traditional trapeze tailpiece is included, in case you don't like the Bigsby at all. This is a great, light weight jazz box which can rock out, too. Slim neck, great for players with smaller hands. Listen to the clips and you will understand why I kept this guitar this long Price: € 5,890 - comes with original Lifton case. Fotos Video1 Video2 Video3
Fender
Telecaster
2009 Fender Custom Shop 1956 Relic Telecaster Masterbuilt John Cruz. The Holy Grail of the Masterbuilt series, the premium league of the the Fender Custom Shop! John Cruz Masterbuilts are in extremely high demind, therefore there are long waiting lists and stiff prices if you want to have one. This one's expensive, too, yet I feel it is a great deal, because with this one you don't need to spend those € 20,000 on an original 56 Telecaster - no kidding, it is that good! Super light weight at only 2.9 kgs (!), super authentic looks, and a fantastic responsive, singing, yet twangy sound - just perfect! Vintage fret size and fretboard radius, yet I feel it is really comfortable due to a perfect neck profile! This is a rather rare opportunity, it is really difficult to find a John Cruz Masterbuilt or any guitar this good, and it will certainly maintain its value. Did you see Vince Gill on the Crossroads Festival DVD? This one's pretty darn close. Price: € 4,890 - comes with original case, accessories, certificate. Fotos1 Fotos2

2005 Fender Custom Shop 1963 Custom Telecaster Relic Ltd. Edition Black. Fantastic lightweight and responsive guitar. Comfortable neck shape that's on the slim slide, not as huge as the Nocaster's U-neck, 9.5" fretboard radius, 6105 frets. Thin skin nitro finish with a nice and authentic aging. I replaced the original threaded steel bridge saddles with proper brass barrel ones since the threads tend to mute the strings (original saddles included). Price: € 2,690 - comes with Ltd Edition case, accessories, certificate. Fotos1 Fotos2 Video
2011 Fender Telebration Flametop Telecaster, 60th Anniversary Ltd. Edition. Antique burst, flametop, gold hardware, a gorgeous telecaster! Price: € 1,590 - comes with original case, accessories, paperworks. Fotos1 Fotos2 Video
2010 Fender Custom Shop La Cabronita Especial Ltd Edition. From my personal collection, this is the expensive Ltd Edition Custom Shop model (in sonic blue), not the more affordable newer production line version! Nicely reliced, TV Jones Classic pickups, excellent condition, a rather unique Telecaster! Price: € 3,490 (incl. 19% turnover tax). Fotos1 Video1

1968 Fender Telecaster, blonde. This is the REAL thing, not a reissue! All original (except for a refret), this one's been played for decades, you can see, feel and hear that! 2010 Fender Road Worn Custom Telecaster, Ltd. Edition. Aged black, made in Mexico. Lots of great 70s appeal. Price: € 898 (incl. 19% turnover tax). Video
1969 Fender Telecaster. This is the REAL thing, not a reissue! Fabulous guitar, but the original frets are pretty low. At your request, I can have it professionally refretted with the fret size of your choice. There is a small faded, cloverleaf-shaped spot on the top, probably from a decoration sticker. Light weight, medium neck, terrific sound! Price: € 5,890 - comes with original case. Video1 Video2 Video3
2010 Fender Custom Shop Closet Classic Thinline Telecaster, sunburst. Now this is just great: Authentic vintage Tele Thinline sound, but without the potential problems of many original 60s/70s Thinlines (vintage fretboard radius, low frets, poor workmanship, chunky necks, heavy weight, thick polyester finishes). This one comes with 9.5" fretboard radius, Dunlop 6105 frets, thin nitro finish, excellent workmanship, and a fantastic sound. Condition as new, unplayed! exceptional pickups available! Price: € 2,990 - comes with original F-logo black tolex case. Fotos1 Fotos2 Fotos3 Video1 Video2

2008 Fender Custom Shop 1968 Relic Stratocaster, teal green metallic. Now this is a real cool strat which sounds just fantastic, as should be evident by the videos. Vintage style 7.5" fretboard radius and small vintage frets might not feel quite as buttery as a more modern 9.5" radius and taller frets, instead it makes for a more wooden and organic sound and feel, which is just as great! 2000 Fender Custom Shop 1956 Closet Classic Stratocaster. A real nice one with a little playing wear, authentic finish cracks and a minor dent at the back of the headstock - which doesn't matter much, this guitar is supposed to age anyway. 2009 Helliver "Gregor Hilden Signature Model" Handbuilt in Germany - My first signature guitar turned out to be a truly outstanding instrument and I am really proud of it! The body shape is reminiscent of 70ies Zemaitis guitars, but future models will come with a slightly smaller upper bout. The body is made from South American Cedro (cedrala odorata) - similar to korina, cedro is currently the best light weight tone wood from the family of mahogany woods available. The flat top is European flamed maple. The neck is made from Cedro, too and features a stout D-shape, ebony fretboard, abalone dot inlays and medium jumbo frets. The pickups are handwound Leosounds Gregor Hilden Signature PAFs (which are seperately available, too - see "pickups"). This is a light weight guitar at only 3.8 kgs and you can order it direct at Helliver Guitars - individual requests for color, neck shape and other features are welcome! Brunetti
When I first heard the Brunetti Single Man combos, I was so impressed, I decided to permanently offer them on my site. These are straight-forward, compact, leight weight, single-channel all-tube amps which sound fantastic at a very affordable price! Both amps feature a three position power switch to switch from full pentode (35W/16W) to triode (15W/10W) to single-ended triode (2W/1W), so you can dial in just the right amount of power end saturation at just the right volume. Or you run them clean and use pedals for overdrive/distortion, which they just as happily accept. The Single Man 16 is about as loud as a Fender Deluxe. If you need more headroom, the Single Man 35 will cover everything else.

Pickups
LeoSounds
Handwound pickups made in Germany - which give other high priced boutique makers a run for the money! I am proud to introduce my first Gregor Hilden signature pickup (as available in my Helliver Gregor Hilden signature guitar), exclusively produced by LeoSounds!
LeoSounds Vintage Player "Gregor Hilden Signature", calibrated set. This is what a great PAF replica should sound like: Refined, sweet, transparent, and with a great sense of detail. Out-of-phase in the middle position (just like Peter Green's old Les Paul). And yes, of course these are modeled after the sound of the original Gibson PAF and Pat.No. humbuckers in my favourite 1968 Les Paul goldtop (converted to 50s specs)! True to vintage PAF specs, my Signatures are not wax-potted, so watch out for feedback in high gain settings. They come with aged nickel plated German silver (no treble loss!) covers by default. By request, unaged covers and non-out of phase sets are available! Price: € 219 / set (incl. 19% turnover tax). David Barfuss
Another German maker of fine handwound boutique pickups, David Barfuss is an experienced guitarist himself who is still playing many gigs per year! He definitely knows what a pickup needs to sound and feel like! He started getting into the craft when the pickups of his 73 stratocaster needed to get a rewind. Here are some of his tasteful sets, the Greeny Blues set - patterned after the sound of Peter Green's legendary Les Paul with original PAFs wired out-of-phase - being one of my personal favourites:
David Barfuss Greeny Blues set. Calibrated bridge and neck humbucker pickups with nickel plated German silver covers (note: German silver is the name of an alloy - actually, it is neither German, nor silver! As opposed to regular brass covers, German silver will not alter the sound in any way!) Amber
Did you know that the inventor of the P-90-in-humbucker format - later licensed as the Gibson P-94 - is German? After 16 years as product manager for Gibson, Wolfgang Damm returned home to fully commit himself to his new enterprise, Amber pickups. These handwound pickups with an incredible attention to detail set a new standard in the boutique pickup world - pricey, but very, very good!
Amber Gregor Hilden Edition Aged Surf-Style Set. Outstanding handwound, extremely accurate aged vintage-style Stratocaster pickup replicas. First edition of 5 sets. Individually numbered sets. The unique feature of my signature edition is a reduced pole-piece staggering. Also, the middle pickup comes non-reversed which makes for more authentic in-between sounds in positions #2 and #4! Covers, magnets, and screws come authentically aged. Price: € 349 / set (incl. 19% turnover tax), comes with original certificate. Vintage
ca. 1961 Gibson PAFs (set of 2). We are talking the REAL thing here, not some replicas! These pickups came in David Kalish's 1961/63 ES-345 (Kalish was the producer and guitaist for Ricky Lee Jones' famed album "Pirates") The guitar has a 1963 serial No., but the electronics date 1961 (as do the neck shape and the entire appearance of this guitar). Very likely the pickups are from the same year, too. The guitar has been sold with the entire hardware stripped, so here's your rare chance to obtain a set of original 60s PAFs! The gold plating is worn down so much that these pickups would fit any Les Paul or ES-335 with nickel plated hardware just as fine. And the sound is just beyond anything! Price: € 4,890 / Set of 2. OKKO
It is not a secret, my absolute preference in overdrive/distortion pedals is the OKKO Diablo, hand built by German boutique maker OKKO in Leipzig. I use this pedal on every gig I play, you can hear it on my DVD "Live at the Luna Bar" and on hundreds of my YouTube videos. This overdrive is probably the best I ever played - and I think I played them all, including rare and expensive boutique pedals like the Klon Zentaur, Hermida Zen Drive etc. I might try something else every now and then, just for a change - but I'm always coming back to the Diablo! I am so impressed with the quality of the OKKO pedals that I decided to always keep some in stock - so you don't have to wait the usual 2-3 months delivery period!
OKKO Diablo. Standard version, high-gloss powder coated orange only (The earlier custom order hand painted models were too time-consuming to produce. They already are rare collector's items!) True bypass, fully discrete circuitry - no ICs involved! High quality components only - Alpha pots, Neutrik jacks, high performance capacitors and resistors, etc. Switches, pots and jacks are wired point-to-point. The Diablo's sound is reminiscent of old plexi Marshall amps from mild crunch to singing lead sounds. It absolutely retains the sound of your guitar, it is incredibly dynamic and transparent and reacts extremly sensitive to your guitar's volume control or changes of pick attack. "Feed" controls low mids to either fatten up your tone or to reduce mush. "Body" is a bass control, "Gain" lets you dial in the desired amount of overdrive. "Tone" lets covers a wide range from dark to bite, but never harsh. Level is the master volume control. The Headroom switch selects between 9V and 18V - the lower voltage is softer and subtly compressed, the higher one is more dynamic and offers more headroom. Price: € 199 (incl. 19% turnover tax), full manufacturer's warranty. Fotos Here are hundreds of clips with vintage Vibrolux or Vibroverb amps - in most clips the Diablo's gain is set low for a nice blues sound: Videos
OKKO Diablo Gain+ This version features an extra gain control and an extra footswitch to select between two different gain settings - great to shift up gears in the middle of a solo, for example. Bernie Marsden (former Whitesnake guitarist) bought one after he and I played a couple of gigs together! Price: € 239 (incl. 19% turnover tax), full manufacturer's warranty. Fotos
OKKO TwinSonic. This is a pedal for guitar players who prefer lower gain, Fender or Dumble-style sounds. Like the Diablo Boost+, the TwinSonic features seperate overdrive and clean boost sections, each with their own independent level controls and footswitches. You can either use the boost to achieve a louder clean solo or rhythm sound (if your amp is set clean) - or you can use it to push vintage tube amps that are set on the verge of break-up into saturation. Additionally, you can kick in overdrive section (which produces the most saturation), or use it by itself. The TwinSonic also features a unique Vox-like Cut control to reduce high end. Now if you turn up the Tone control as you turn down the Cut control, the pedal produces a punchy, midrangy Dumble-style sound! Price: € 249 (incl. 19% turnover tax), full manufacturer's warranty. Fotos Videos
OKKO Dominator. The latest OKKO creation will appeal to guitarists in need of something real heavy. The Dominator has tons of gain and can produce even heaviest metal sounds. But it will just as well provide beautiful Dumble-like lead sounds with the gain control turned down! Price: € 209 (incl. 19% turnover tax), full manufacturer's warranty. Fotos1 Fotos2 Video1 Video2 Video3
OKKO CocaComp. Probably the best compressor pedal I know of. The Sing control dials in the amount of compression, while Push handles volume level. If you turn down the Sing control and turn up Push, the CocaComp makes an excellent clean boost pedal, too. Price: € 159 (incl. 19% turnover tax), full manufacturer's warranty. Foto
Vahlbruch
Recently I was approached by a German engineer who was trying to wake my interest in his line of boutique pedals. These things happen more and more often lately, so I was less than enthusiastic at first - until I tried the Jewel Drive overdrive pedal! The decision to market these top quality pedals on my website was quick and easy. And when I got to play the new Chorus pedal, it went straight on my main pedal board. So here are a few of the truly outstanding Vahlbruch pedals:
Vahlbruch Jewel Drive. This overdrive pedal features two independent gain stages („Drive" and „Drive+") with seperate adjustable gain and volume controls. For example, you can dial in a crunchy rhythm sound and a louder, saturated lead sound at just the perfect volume balance. Or how about the opposite? A heavily saturated, but relatively quiet rhythm and a cleaner but louder solo sound? No problem. The Jewel Drive's amazing sound is extremely natural and has a great singing quality - perfect for Joe Bonamassa or Gary Moore-style sounds, for example. Unique to the Jewel drive is the Timbre control which adjusts a specially shaped range of midrange frequencies. In my videos the Timbre control is set to "11", i.e. mids are just slightly scooped, which produces a beautifully juicy attack. All Vahlbruch pedals are completely handbuilt in Germany. Recently, the Jewel Drive recieved a rave review in Germany's No. 1 guitar magazine Gitarre & Bass! Price: € 254 (incl. 19% turnover tax), free shipping! Vahlbruch Chorus. Simply the best chorus pedal I have ever heard - and I have heard them all :) It went straight on my main pedal board, which hasn't seen a chorus pedal in a very long time and doesn't have room for more than 3 or 4 pedals, anyway! Handbuilt, 100% analog, true bypass etc. Like all Vahlbruch pedals, outstanding quality! Price: € 249 (incl. 19% turnover tax), free shipping! Wampler
Wampler PlexiDrive. As the name suggests, an overdrive pedal reminiscent of old Marshall sounds with a great blend of warmth and clarity. I never stray from my beloved OKKO Diablo for long, but the PlexiDrive actually found its way onto my backup pedal board! After five months of waiting, the pedal is finally available, if only in small quantities - currently 10 left in stock! Price: € 189 (incl. 19% turnover tax). My Personal Guitars
1968 Gibson Les Paul Standard Goldtop Converted to 50s Specs w/ PAFs. My personal all-time favourite guitar! This heavily modified battered bastard originally featured P-90 pickups, but was routed out to accommodate humbucker pickups. Now it is the home for an original old PAF in the neck position and an original ’63 Patent Number at the bridge. One previous owner also had weight relief chambers routed into the body – not exactly an example of fine Gibson craftsmanship, but in a rather crude way: holes were drilled into the body from the back and then covered with a thick bottom veneer. However, the veneer work is not easily detectable. Additionally, the headstock has been broken several times (expert luthier Boris Dommenget performed the final bullet-proof headstock restauration); a third pickup cavity had been routed in the middle position and refilled again; a Bigsby vibrato system had been installed and removed again; several refrets have been performed – this guitar has been through it all! The sound is just divine – somewhere in between a Les Paul and an ES-335. The neck shape is perfect, like an original ’59. And the guitar weighs in at only 3.8 kgs! The curious thing about it is that this guitar was part of a trade-in deal when I sold my original 1959 Les Paul Standard (Video) many years ago – the ’59 being the more valuable and revered guitar for most. But as soon as I picked up the goldtop, it immediately felt like “my” guitar – and it took me only 2 seconds to realize that it would be my main guitar for the rest of my life! This gorgeous goldtop has been featured extensively on many of my CDs and on my DVD “Live at the Luna Bar” and it proudly stars the cover of my instrumental CD “Golden Voice Blues” Fotos (by Manfred Pullert – the Nashville bridge has been replaced with an original old ABR-1 bridge since) Video1 (With original Dumble Overdrive Special ODS 100) Video2 (With original 1968 silverface / alu frame Fender Vibrolux Reverb)
2010 Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Peter Green / Gary Moore Limited Edition, Tom Murphy Heavy Aged, Collector's Choice 1 – my current No. 2! Amazing guitar! At only 3.8 kgs certainly one of the lightest of the strictly limited edition of 125 only. According to my taste, I performed a few cosmetic changes (turning the neck pickup back to its original position, installing four of the same ‘60s style reflector knobs and adding a pickguard) – but the guitar can be restored to its authentic Peter Green look anytime in only a few minutes! Interesting fact about the neck: I had two non-relic Peter Green / Melvyn Franks guitars before (Video1and Video2), each of which came with a different neck profile, but this is the first Reissue / Historic with the exact dimensions of my original 1959 sunburst I once owned! Fortunately, the back of the neck looks a lot nicer than on the Gibson promotion fotos. However, like all Historics after 2002 and all Gibsons with PLEK machined frets (after 2006), this comes with extremly low frets. Not very comfortable, if you prefer 11 gauge strings like me. But I practice a lot on this guitar and when I pick up a guitar with nice tall frets afterwards, playing is like a breeze ... Fotos1 UPDATE: Recently I replaced the burstbucker pickup covers with super authentic aged DMC covers, which have the proper vintage dimensions, see: Fotos2 Video1 But first of all, the tone of this guitar is just out of sight! Video1 Live-Video1 Live-Video2 (with a cranked Brunetti Single Man 35 combo amp) Live-Video3 (featuring fellow blues player Peter Driessen)
1969 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe. Natural. Might have been refinished at one time, but it looks perfectly authentic with nice finish cracks. I had purchased this one years ago from fellow guitarist Richie Arndt, sold it later und bought it back recently – now it’s a keeper! Stinger, no volute, Nashville bridge added, original tuners in case. At a gig with Sydney Youngblood: Foto Additional pics: Fotos Video
2001 Gibson Custom Shop ‘54 Les Paul Reissue. Tri-burst. Previously owned by Mick Ralphs (of Bad Company and Mott The Hoople) who wore this guitar in – it actually looks like a real ‘50s guitar! Outstanding sound and light weight at 3.8kgs. Pickups are not original, probably some boutique scene. I don’t care, they sound great and are wired out-of-phase in the middle position. Fotos Video1 Video2
1963 Gibson SG Special Conversion w/ PAFs. Originally an SG Special featuring P-90s, now equipped with Amber PAFs, Bigsby vibrato system, and Schaller replacement tuners. Great guitar with the wide '63 "large neck"-profile, recently refretted. I am absolutely enthusiastic about this guitar – despite the fact that while routing the humbucker pickup cavities, the tech broke through the guitar's bottom. I don't care, this has been fixed professionally since, it doesn't hurt the sound and just made the guitar more affordable. Fotos1 Fotos2 Video
2003 Gibson Custom Shop 1959 ES-335 Historic Collection. This one belonged to "Europe" (the band, not the continent) guitarist, John Norum. I bought it from a Swedish dealer at the 2011 Oldenburg Vintage Show and played at a jam session the very same evening (see Video, demonstrating its unplugged sound.. ;) - and right away three different persons asked if I would care to sell it to them. Well, not for now. Here are some nice clips from a recent gig in my hometown Muenster, Germany: Video1 Video2 Video3 Video4 Video5
1967 Gibson ES-355. Refinished black, Bigsby removed, converted to stop tailpiece, the controls cavity was routed out from the back of the body (great idea ...) – a collector’s nightmare, but a true “Player” with an outstanding sound – featured on “Daydream” from my CD “Blue in Red”. Fotos Video1 Video2 Video3
1966 Gibson ES-335. Sunburst, all original except converted to stop tailpiece (original trapez tailpiece in case), new Gibson Deluxe tuners, professional refret.Video
1969 Gibson ES-335 „Flip Flop“. Originally a lefty, flipped for right hand use. Another collector’s nightmare, but the perfect blues guitar with an amazingly dry, woody tone and a stout neck. Video
1966 Epiphone Riviera (made by Gibson USA). All original and absolutely charming. I will have it refretted, though, as these very low profile vintage frets are pretty hard to play. The pickups are wired out-of-phase in the middle position, a feature that can be found on many 60s Rivieras as well as on many 60s ES-345s and 355s. Comes with original case. Video1 Video2
1959 Gibson ES-175. A fantastic "holy grail". Refretted by Gruhn Guitars, Nashville. Equipped with Scatterbrane PAF replica pickups w/ Area 59 aged pickup covers, replacement tuners, replacement pots. This guitar is a dream come true! Comes with brown case. Video1 Video2
2009 PRS Starla X, P-90 Model. Pink, unique looks, fantastic sound and unbelievably light weight at only 2.6 kgs!!! Originally, the guitar looked like this: Fotos-BEFORE With
a few hardware changes according to my taste (aluminium stop tailpiece,
cream colored P-90 covers, Gibson ’59-style knobs and metal pointers,
cream colored switch tip, security locks) the guitar looks a lot more
elegant now: Fotos-AFTER
All original parts are stored in the case and the guitar can be
restored to original state anytime. Great for touring overseas! Video1 Video2
1966 Fender Telecaster. Candy Apple Red. Nobody could tell that this has been expertly refinished by German premium luthier Frank Deimel (of Deimel Guitarworks, Berlin)! At one time a Bigsby had been installed, you can still see the (refilled) stud holes which only adds to the authentic vintage vibe. Featuring handmade Peter Florance Voodoo pickups, this tele sounds fantastic and has a perfect neck profile. Video Video2
1970s Fender Telecaster Deluxe. I
found this one in 2002 at No. 1 in Hamburg while on tour. Played it –
fell in love with it – purchased it. Nice light weight, obviously the
guitar had been played heavily, the frets were completely worn down. I
had it refretted with Dunlops 6105. Additionally I had a new bridge
pickup made with more output to match the neck humbucker. Built by a
custom pickup winder in Berlin – sorry, I forgot his name, I found him
on eBay one day. Original pickup and original six-saddle bridge are
stored in case. Fotos1 Fotos2
1996 Fender Custom Shop ’50s Telecaster. I purchased this one at Uli Kurtinat’s shop in 1996. It was featured on many of my CDs – the nicest example being “Beale Street Strut” from “Westcoast Blues”. Fotos Live Clip with Tom Principato: Video

2009 Fender Custom Shop Telecaster, LTD Edition. Fiesta red, rosewood fretboard, and exceptionally light weight at only 3 kgs (!!). That's why the guitar is so resonant. The original wiring featured a four-way switch, which is one slot too many in my book. When I put in a regular three-way switch, something went wrong and the middle position is now out-of-phase. Not the original Fender circuit, but I like the sound and left it that way. The neck is a dream with a perfect C-profile, 9.5" radius, and Dunlop 6105 frets. Comes close to an original vintage tele - almost. In the meantime, I have installed an original 1966 Fender pickup, and I like it a lot (see videos 2 and 3). Foto Live-Video1 Video2 Video3

2005 Fender Custom Shop 1956 Relic Stratocaster Limited Edition. Taos Tourquise – an incredibly light weight guitar and a sharp looker! Perfect V-shaped neck featuring Dunlop 6105 frets. Danelectro Baritone. A great unique sound for rhythm parts or the occasional solo in the studio („Milestones“ or „Baritone Boogaloo“ from „Golden Voice Blues“) Ever since I heard Danny Gatton’s solos on his CD “New York Stories” I wanted a baritone – now I’ve got two of them and one is up for sale or trade-in. Pick the one you like. One: Fotos The other one: Video
50s or 60s Kay Hollowbody guitar. Equipped with Diamond DeArmond pickup. Probably not the best guitar for an AC/DC cover band, but just perfect for afternoon tea dances or old-school blues jams! Fotos Video1 Video2
1967 Gretsch Chet Atkins Tennessean. It seems that the pickups are from the 70s and an aftermarket bridge with six brass saddles has been installed - and exactly because of those mods I like the sound of this guitar. Has been refretted, too, so it plays great, too! Video1

18?? Parlour Nylonstring Guitar. In 1992, I found this stunning, richly decorated acoustic guitar in a tiny shop in Praha. After I had played the guitar for a while in the shop, the old owner offered to give it to me as a gift! Of course, I kindly refused and insisted to pay for the guitar. A little later around lunch break on Karl’s Bridge I decided to have another look at the guitar in day light and play it a little – and right away I get arrested for performing street music without a license and taken to one of the stone towers by the end of the bridge! After a lengthy discussion with the officer on duty I was set free again. Fotos

1968 Fender Vibrolux Reverb. Silverface Aluframe. My absolute favourite. 2 x 6L6, 40W, 2 x 10” combo. Oxford speakers, all original, except for a few replaced caps. You can hear it on many of my recordings and my DVD “Live at the Luna Bar”. Video
1967 Fender Vibrolux Reverb. Blackface. 2 x 6L6, 40W, 2 x 10” combo. Sounds just a little more refined than the silverface, but not necessarily better or worse. This one was featured on hundreds of my YouTube clips: Videos
1963 Fender Vibroverb. Brown Tolex, all original. 40W, 2 x 10” combo. The reissues don’t even come close. Amazingly round and musical tone, a little warmer than the Vibrolux amps. Foto Videos
1966 Fender Deluxe Reverb. Blackface,
all original. 20W, 1 x 12" combo. This is the one Aspen Pittman would
pick for the desert island if he was allowed to keep only one amp. I am
happy that I could obtain such a nice clean example. Fantastic sound and
comfortable light weight.
1979 Fender Princeton Reverb. Silverface. 2 x 6V6, 15W, 1 x 10“ combo. Portable little classic with an excellent sound – great for studio recordings, duo gigs etc. Fotos
2009 Vox Cabinet w/ 2 x 12 Celestion Blue Alnicos. This cabinet was featured with an original (!) 100W Dumble head on my CD “Blue On Red” as well as on the “Rorymania” tour with Richie Arndt, Alex Conti and Henrik Freischlader – in other words, it was getting loud. The cabinet took it without a problem despite the low wattage rating of the speakers. The cabinet sounds great with other amps, too! By the way, the Dumble has been sold since – actually a pity ...
